Thank you for the article, Grant. It’s nice to read your analysis that isn’t as hysterical as most of the analysis I’ve seen surrounding USMNT. I really enjoy being a subscriber.

Thanks for reading and subscribing! Taking the right tone with the USMNT is always a challenge, because so much can change in a short amount of time. Remember when Klinsmann lost twice in 2017 and was gone? Losing in Panama isn't good, but if the US wins on Wednesday they'll be in decent shape. If they lose, then Berhalter is in trouble. That's just the way things go in this gig.

Great read, Grant. Calmness in the face of chaos is a virtue. But your reply below is right on. If they win Wednesday, pressure’s off 3G. If they don’t, the heat gets turned up to boil.

Costa Rica are the kings of packing it in. And Keylor Navas is still between the sticks. I sure hope they didn’t basically throw that game away only to struggle in this one.

When you have a team culture that is grounded in a common goal and an appreciation for the stakeholders working together, you respond to adversity in positive ways. Let's see what happens against Costa Rica to judge whether or not the culture Berhalter is setting with a young team is effective.

Agree to an extent, but changes in culture take time to happen. So for me it's hard to pin the result of one or two games on cultural stuff. Does that make sense?

Also, really appreciate all the work you are pouring into this cycle while hanging your own shingle in many ways. Again, became a paid subscriber last 3 game round in September and it was a good decision.

Understand the counterpoint but in WC qualifying you don't get a lot of extra time and he's been the coach for almost 3 years now (2 with COVID). Additionally, I am speaking more about the way we respond stylistically than just results. I am rooting for him to succeed bc he is our coach and I hope his culture takes root. I love culture coaches and was/am a big Bradley fan because of it.

Thanks for subscribing, Daniel! My whole goal is to do quality writing that isn't hysterical but rather explains what's going on with the USMNT and tells you things you might not have known before. If I'm learning things, you're learning things. Appreciate you going on the journey with me!

Halloween came early for me—that was some scary s**t last night. No flow, no cohesion & no shots on target? It really looked like our team had never played before. And I guess they hadn’t with all the shuffling in the lineup. Leaving out Pepi & Aaronson as starters was mind boggling to me.

We’ve got our work cut out for us against the Ticos. We have to win this upcoming home match. They’re on a high with their comeback win against El Salvador.

I also hope McKennie’s knock won’t rule him out of the next match. We desperately need link ups in the midfield which we didn’t have in Panama. Our guys need to have short-term memory loss including Berhalter. I know the players can do a 180, hopefully the coach can too.
