RIP Grant. Crazy how you passed away of natural causes after stories like this. Not smart, Qatar. You should have done some background checks and figured out who he was before you did this.

Are Nasser Al-Khater and Gianni Infantino related, or are they just devotees of the same cynical PR strategy of deflect and blame the questioners?

The tragic irony is that Qatar could have easily afforded to treat the legions of workers humanely rather as than semi-indentured servants, providing adequate safety, housing, and healthcare. Besides having the satisfaction of doing the right thing morally, Qatar would have reaped the priceless benefit of world respect.

Thank you, Grant. Always standing up for what is right and showing us what is not in Qatar and this tournament. I loved your podcasts and articles. We will miss you, man.

Absolutely stunning and heartbreaking to lose Grant so young. He was a giant in the American soccer world and changed the game and how it is covered. A kind and open man who brought a sincerity to all he did -in his writing, on podcasts and in TV. I have read his work for decades and his voice will be missed. I can offer little but my condolences to his wife and those who knew and loved him.

RIP Grant, this was my last article from you in my inbox. I followed you since I was a teen, who was beginning to love soccer. I grew up into my soccer fandom as you were establishing yourself as THE US soccer journalist. Dr. Gounder, if you read these, my extreme condolences and sympathies are with you. Prayers to you and your family.

Coming hear to express what a void I feel now without Grant’s WC coverage. I don’t want any of that emotion to overshadow how tragic it is that he passed, but I’ve found myself over the last 36 hours greatly missing his take on the tournament. All of this is just so incredibly sad.

The news is horrible on Grant’s death. He was a voice that helped me learn soccer better. And this cycle he truly spoke truth to power. May his wife find peace, and may she learn his cause of death. Given these troubled times, I truly hope this was only an untimely illness.
