Get well dude! Btw, this month Criterion Channel has a nice collection of soccer-related cinema. Just enjoyed the Iranian film "Offside" by Jafar Panahi.
Like so many others, I miss Grant. I am a writer myself, and after taking a break from work this evening, I sat back and thought about Grant... and this column. And this paragraph specifically:
“And while I’m not sure I’ll ever make it to 17 men’s World Cups like Enrique Macaya Márquez, damned if I’m not going to try. Check back with me in 2058.”
Gone too soon. It’s not going to feel right to not have Grant at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, let alone the 2026 men’s tournament in the U.S.
Rest in peace, Grant. You were a treasure of the game, you provided so many people with joy and you were a kind-hearted soul. You are dearly missed by so many. I hope you’re interviewing soccer legends up in heaven.
Congratulations on the award. I agree with DJB - it’s nice to get a look behind the curtain. Hope you kick the bug soon.
I read the CBS mailbag and totally agree with your suggestion for the US to host the ‘24 Copa. It’d be a nice federation dress rehearsal for ‘26, and it *would* be the only high-level competitive tournament games the US will have. (No offense to CONCACAF teams, but the US needs to play more teams that got out of their groups.) Besides, with a 48-team World Cup, CONMEBOL qualifying games won’t mean as much for them, either.

I've been looking forward to you sharing details about your event ever since you mentioned it on the pod. Thank you! Feel better!
I would love to read your thesis if you want to dig it out and post it.
Great stuff Grant. Go journalism and take care of yourself.

Incredible experience. Thanks for noting the three amazing women! Hope you’re able to get some rest and keep feeling better.

Congratulations, Grant! Even though, it’s not my profession, I enjoy the inside look at your profession. And please take care of yourself.
