Happy birthday, Grant! Hope it was a good one. The World Cup continues to entertain! Appreciate your thoughts on Pulisic and how he's grown playing with the USMNT. Seems like he's much more relaxed, which is new.
I think winning on Tuesday was a huge weight lifted off his shoulders. Obviously, the U.S. wants to go all the way and compete past the group stage, but I thought Pulisic looked very nervous in the TV shots during the anthem ahead of Iran. After everything he went through in 2017 with qualifying, I'm sure he's feeling a heckuva lot better now that they're through to the round of 16.
Happy Birthday, Grant! I have a 2.5 year old girl and a healthy newborn son born 11/14 so I’ve been enjoying the late nights and early mornings here hanging out with my wife, daughter, and son watching copious amounts of World Cup soccer. What a freaking delight it has been!
Happy Birthday, Grant! Great write-up on the presser today. I feel like I can't ever find the "official" full video of any of these press conferences. They definitely don't appear on the US Soccer YouTube. Anyone know where they are? Thanks in advance.
You do great work and I intend to remain a subscriber. But you have a challenge ahead. With no WC for four years, with no qualifying tournament for the US ( as a host nation), it can be argued that the USMNT has no game of importance until WC 2026. And will an occasional note about Pulisic at Chelsea ( or wherever ) or Scally starting for ( insert team) will not hold a lot of interest. I guess the women can become front and center. In any case, all the best. Have wonderful holidays .
Great article. McKennie, Adams, Pulisic and many others (LDT, Wright) have had a collective dream since youth. To be able to play with your childhood friends on this stage must be very motivational.
Grant, I read the CBS post and wanted to say something about MLS players and the “bias” against them. It’s not about them. It’s about their experience. The issue is that MLS games are really slow compared to games in most European leagues. The ball simply doesn’t move as fast in MLS. Guys who don’t have experience with that speed of play can really struggle with it. Decision making has to be much faster. Passes have to be much sharper. Everything has to speed up considerably. If you’re not used to that, you can get overwhelmed pretty quickly. Anyone who’s played a team sport has run into an opponent who just plays faster than they’re used to. The guys we have that are playing in Europe are just better prepared for a faster game. That’s all.
USMNT World Cup Daily, Day 18
Happy Birthday Grant! If they let you, hoist a pint. Then save the glass to catch the leaking water!

Tell me you told the Dutch reporter that Cruyff was a former Washington Diplomat player!
Congrats Grant you made NBC News with top man Lester Holt on tonight’s National News, well done. Of course you were on the ground in Qater.
Happy birthday Grant!
