I agree with Alex that the USWNT need, somehow, to play major tournaments outside of Concacaf. Other than Canada ( And judging from what their players say, Canada is in chaos also) womens soccer is just not supported anywhere in this hemisphere. Brazil, Argentina , Mexico…… they are still hitchhiking to practices. And facilities are left overs. Do you think the world has failed to notice that this Concacaf tournament, for qualification to the women’s ‘23 World Cup and the Olympics, is played in empty stadiums? And 68,900 watched a round one game between England and Austria in Woman’s Euro 2022?

The artwork for this article is fantastic. I love the concept and the execution.

To be honest, I like the idea of Europe thinking less of our side. Pride goeth before the fall.

I concur. The high motivation to win has and will always be there for the USWNT players. This external worldly doubt now gives them extra fodder for the motivation tank.

I think "the world's" (Europe, mostly) claim the USWNT's reign is over, albeit somewhat founded (and I'm a massive, i.e. 20+ year USWNT fan), is premature, if anything. No one has unseated us yet in the most recent major competition called the World Cup (ahem, four stars). Other teams are obviously welcome to try in 2023, but we're not going to give it up that easily (plus we're used to the pressure on that stage...)

She Believes is the only international tournament outside the WC and Olympics. And this year’s field was pretty weak in comparison. I agree - it’d be great to see a world-class tournament every year.

European teams are improving, but truth is, CONCACAF teams are the champions of both major international tournaments. Until that changes, talk of Europe being best is just that.

I think there's a definite European bias in global soccer coverage. That's what is great about World Cups -- it puts everyone's assumptions to the test. We'll find out whether anyone is catching up with the U.S.

True enough. But the US is the only world class women’s team in the entire hemisphere. Canada seems to have drifted into chaos, Mexico is embarrassing itself, and women’s teams from Columbia, Brazil, Argentina ( name your country) are poor representatives everywhere. Needless to say, there should be World Cup quality teams from all over south and Central America. And Haiti is taking over.
