Completely agree, but let’s not confuse the vast majority of the Russian *people* with the Russian powerful, especially Putin. That FIFA didn’t dump immediately Russia from the WC qualifiers reminds you of FIFA’s priorities. Will Russia “qualify” as other countries refuse to play them, and is it possible they could WIN for the same reason?
I agree. That was epic, and I was on edge the whole match. And then penalties, which I typically hate, but 21 consecutive goals? Having the substitute keeper named Kepa miss the final PK was almost too perfect.
Kepa has been brilliant saving penalties this season. It was the right move. Despite the 1 save at AFCON, Mendy hasn’t been good at penalties
I’ve never seen Mendy save a PK with my own eyes. Not a bad call at all. Didn’t work out, but…

As a youth coach, I changed keepers before a penalty shootout in a tournament final -- with exactly the same results.
