I've been going to Sounders games since the NASL days in the Kingdome, and tonight's game was the most exciting, satisfying, and meaningful match I have ever attended (or even watched). The complete domination of this match, the mental and physical toughness, and the overall quality of this squad throughout the competition was a joy to see. Also happy that MLS might start getting its due. Just a magical night in Seattle, and throughout the league. #STID!

I think some credit should be given to the offensive contribution of Jordan Morris. Also, while it is good that an MLS team was finally able to win this thing, it seems to me that most of the players for Seattle are not American. So it speaks well for the league’s development , and ability to attract talented foreign players, but it doesn’t say anything about US soccer player growth and development. Is almost as though we are hosting a foreign player based league in America, that is fun to watch and very competitive. As long as you don’t mind watching teams play in American cities, with no Americans on the pitch. It would be like watching the Yankees if maybe one or two players were born here ( which could happen, of course).

Fabulous for Seattle, which is a futbol hotbed in this country, and has been for a long time.

Fabulous for MLS, because the failure has been a black eye for years.

Still, the question remains: Is this an aberration, a lightning strike; or is it the beginning of the changing of the guard? In the late 1960’s, the upstart AFL chased parity with the established NFL. But it got no respect until the Jets won the super bowl. And I submit it was Kansas City winning the super bowl right after the Jets that cemented the subsequent merger.

Please, PLEASE let this victory in a “BIG f****** game!” be a sign of the future!

The Sounders dug in and kept chasing after chances. And then it got really loud. A wonderful evening in the Emerald City!

Club World Cup is a big deal but aren’t we going a bit overboard for a game between teams that both have lost more games than they’ve won in their leagues this year? It’s a bit like celebrating an FA cup winner that gets relegated

Are we actually guaranteed a Club World Cup? Imagine the December timeline is impossible with the actual World Cup.
