We recently celebrated six months since the start of GrantWahl.com, and I want to take the time to thank all of you for your support, including quite a few of you who have subscribed recently. I’d really appreciate it if you’d recommend my writing site to people you know. There’s even a new app to make things easier to read on your phone.
Here’s what’s to look for in the coming days and weeks:
• Magazine-style stories from my recent travels. You might have noticed my datelines recently from Venice, Doha and Barcelona. I just went on a reporting trip to all those places, and magazine stories from each spot will be coming soon, including two (one of them a women’s soccer story) before the next round of USMNT World Cup qualifiers this month. My site involves a lot more global reporting than most Substack offerings, but that kind of journalism requires resources. These stories are for paid subscribers.
• Coverage of three more USMNT World Cup qualifiers. I promised you that I’d have an on-site magazine-quality story on all 14 U.S. World Cup qualifiers by 9 am ET the day after the game, and we’re 11 for 11 so far with three huge qualifiers to go later this month. If you’re a paid subscriber, you can go back and read my previous 11 stories and relive the storylines and images of a memorable campaign. Huge thanks to Dan Leydon for his signature artwork for every game on deadline. These stories are for paid subscribers. I also post Audio Dispatches (free posts) and My 3 Thoughts after every qualifier.
In case you’re wondering, I’ll be on-site at the World Cup later this year. (By the way, it’s a World Cup year!)
Fútbol with Grant Wahl is a reader-supported soccer newsletter. You can sign up (free or paid) to get my posts in your inbox. Quality journalism requires resources. The best way to support my work is by taking out a paid subscription now.
• The Friday Newsletter. Every Friday, I’ll write a column on a soccer topic and answer your Mailbag questions that I’ll solicit every Thursday. These newsletters are for paid subscribers, while free subscribers can ask Mailbag questions.
• The Interview. Twice a week I’ll interview someone intriguing from the soccer world for my podcast. The audio version of my podcast is always free on Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. The written version of the interviews is for paid subscribers. We’ll also continue to publish the written version of our Instant-Reaction discussions after every USMNT World Cup qualifier with Landon Donovan, Chris Wittyngham and me.
• My 3 Thoughts. For big games, once or twice a week I’ll write My 3 Thoughts on the match right after the final whistle. It’s fun to hear your thoughts as well in the comments. These will typically be free posts, except after USMNT World Cup qualifiers.
We’ll be doing more things in our soccer community here, but after six months I just wanted to thank you and tell you how excited I am about what’s to come!
Thanks and congrats Grant! So much great work here already and I'm looking forward to see what's next.
